How to repair a backup job

If for some reasons there are differences in backup catalog or a file/folder is missing in destination (it was manually deleted by mistake), you can run a repair backup action from the Backup4all interface toolbar.
During the backup repair, there are several actions performed:
  1. A backup test is made: the backup catalog against the files in destination.
  2. The missing files from destination are deleted from the backup catalog (no file is deleted in destination!)
  3. A new backup is made, to include new and modified files (and also the missing files from destination will be included in the new backup)
A second repair option is available: "Repair catalog only". That will perform only the first 2 steps described above.
The other options for quick repair, means there will be a quick test performed, instead of the normal backup test (at step 1 above).

Why the Mirror backup to cloud destination takes so long?

If you run a Mirror backup to a cloud destination (Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, Google Cloud Storage, S3 Compatible), please note there are several requests made for each file/folder backed up.
For each file, Backup4all is performing the request, waits for the cloud server response and then will upload the file, receive the server confirmation, then will continue with the next file.
If performing too many requests, some servers will probably repond slower.
Running an Incremental backup in such a case will speed up the backup.

  • Full backup - if the sizes of last differential and all incremental backups since last full/ differential exceeds 80% of the full backup size.
  • Differential backup - if there isn't a last differential and the size of all incremental backups since last full exceeds 30% of the full size, a differential backup will be executed.
  • Differential backup - if there is a last differential and the size of all incremental backups since last differential exceeds 50% of the last differential size, a new differential will be executed.
