What does backup mean?

Backup means copying files to a second medium (a disk, tape, ...) as a precaution in case the first medium fails. A very important rule is to back up your files regularly. Even the most reliable hardware can break down eventually. To protect your documents you should create 2 or more backups and keep them in different locations.
