How to use the Scheduler

Steps to follow when scheduling an existing backup job, backup group or “one touch backup”:

1. Open Backup4all, press the Scheduler (F11) button.
   
2. In the Schedulers window, click on the Add button. The Schedule Job window will open.
   
   • In the Execute backup using section choose between the Main application and the Command line application to be displayed when running the backup (default is Main application).
   • In the Run section you can select between a backup job, a backup group and one touch backup.
     Note: For a backup job:
     - you can select the operation to perform when scheduled, from the Action drop-down list.
     
     • Default, Full, Differential , Incremental when the scheduler starts, this is the type of the backup that will be performed.
     • Test to do a test operation when the scheduler is started. You can type here the backup numbers you want to test. The order you type them in is the order they will be tested.
     - you can set the Clear backup before run option. Backup4all will first delete the ".bkc " file and all zip files associated with the current backup job and after that execute the scheduled task.
     
3. In the Scheduler section, you can select one of these options:
   
   • Use Windows Scheduler to be able to run the backup even if no user is logged in. If you select this option you have to click on the Set password button and type your Windows login password in the new opened window.
   • Use standalone scheduler: the current user has to be logged on for the scheduler to be executed.
   • Run at system shutdown: the backup will run when the shutdown message is detected.

   
   

   

4. Press Ok. The Schedule window will open.
   
   • From the Schedule Task drop-down list, you can select the frequency for  backup.
   • In the Start time field, can be selected the time when the backup will run. Press Ok.
     
5. Press Save.

1. Go to Start menu, click All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System tools and click Scheduled Tasks.
2. Go to File menu and select New->Scheduled Task
3. A new task will be created. Please rename it.
4. Right-click on the new created task and select Properties

In the Run field type:

• for a backup job using the Windows Scheduler:
  

  "C:\Program Files\Softland\Backup4all 3\b4aSchedStarter.exe" /R "job name"

• for a backup job using the Standalone Scheduler:
  

  "C:\Program Files\Softland\Backup4all 3\b4aSchedStarter.exe" /R "job name" -STD

• for a backup group using the Windows Scheduler:
  

  "C:\Program Files\Softland\Backup4all 3\b4aSchedStarter.exe" /G "group name"
  

• for a backup group using the Standalone Scheduler:
  

  "C:\Program Files\Softland\Backup4all 3\b4aSchedStarter.exe" /G "group name" -STD

• for the one touch backup using the Windows Scheduler:
  

  "C:\Program Files\Softland\Backup4all 3\b4aSchedStarter.exe" /OTB

• for the one touch backup using the Standalone Scheduler:

"C:\Program Files\Softland\Backup4all 3\b4aSchedStarter.exe" /OTB -STD 

Note:
- In this examples are used the default installation paths. If you have installed Backup4all into another location, you have to type the correct file path.
- If you have selected the Command line application to be used, you have to type b4aCmd.exe instead of b4aSchedStarter.exe

1. In the Start in field type:

   "C:\Program Files\Backup4all 3\"

2. Click on Set password and type your Windows login password.
   
3. Make sure the Enabled option is set (checked).
   
4. Go to the Schedule tab
   
5. From the Schedule Task drop-down list, you can select the frequency for  backup.
   
6. In the Start time field, you can type a time to run the backup.
   
7. Click Ok.
